Camden Pierce Hughes
March 15, 2005 - May 14, 2011
On May 14, 2011, a little boy's lifeless body was found under some trees at the end of our driveway. His picture soon went countrywide and beyond as officials reached out to learn his identity. Camden and his story touched many lives.
This blue-eyed precious little six-year-old boy was loving, intelligent, gifted, enthusiastic, and happy. He had a bright future ahead, but now his family holds on to the memories of his love and contagious laughter.
"Every Child Deserves Love," a fund, started in memory of Camden Pierce Hughes cares for at-risk children in Africa. Tribal wars, genocide, drought, sickness, disease, and the death of parents due to AIDS, TB, or Malaria, have left many little ones literally on the streets to defend themselves. These children walk the streets hungry, scared, cold, sick, and have stories of abuse and neglect. We want to see these children restored emotionally, physically and spiritually. With your help, we can rescue the child destined for a life on the streets. We can make a difference in the life of those that are in need and hurting.
A poem that Linda Gove read at the closing of Camden's funeral: (author unknown)
One seed can start a garden
One smile can lift a spirit.
One candle can light a room;
One conversation can start a friendship.
One step can begin a journey;
One heart can love many.
One person can make all the difference -
That "one" is you.
